SHARING THE MINISTRY - The Eucharistic Minister
The word of Holy Scripture, and the teachings of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, convey that all persons by virtue of their baptism into Christ Jesus are priests. This doctrine is commonly referred to as “The Priesthood of All Believers.” Using the spiritual gifts that have been given to each of us, we answer God’s Call to share the words of faith that have been shaped by our personal journey of faith, and to bring comfort, healing and wholeness to those who touch our lives.
One such minister is The Eucharistic Minister. On Saturday, October 29, Pastor Marohl trained 10 persons who answered God’s Call to go to the homes of those who are unable to attend worship and share with them the Sacrament of Holy Communion. These individuals are an extension of the “pastoral arm” and will enhance and amend and not replace pastoral visitation.
On the first weekend of each month, the Eucharistic Ministers will be called forward at the end of each of the three worship services for a brief commissioning service. At that time they will also receive their communion kit and be charged by us, their sisters and brothers in Christ, to go out into our world. This sending will also serve as a visual reminder to each of us of our common ministry and the larger community of faith.
“Think of us this way, as servants of Christ and stewards of God’s mysteries.” 1 Corinthians 4:1
